ARTs of JOMON : Hyper Subculture

17 JUN 2017 to 13 AUG 2017

As the first exhibition to be held by Arts of Jomon in Malaysia, “Hyper Subculture” explores the links between the Jomon period and contemporary art and subculture in Japan today. Spanning more than 10,000 years and ending around 300 BC, the Jomon period saw the creative arts flourish alongside nature and laid the foundation for Japanese culture. Connecting the ancient past with the present day, ARTs of JOMON’s exhibitions feature a wide range of works inspired by the Jomon period and have been held in a number of locations around the world since 2013.

See original Jomon-style works by contemporary Japanese artists

Wander through the world of renowned animator Yasufumi Soejima

Learn and create in hands-on workshops

A number of workshops will be held throughout the duration of the exhibition. Daily workshops will allow participants to make unique accessories using obsidian, the hard mineral used in Jomon knives and arrowheads, while special workshops will focus on Jomon pottery and 3D printing and will be led by visiting Japanese creators.
